CAMPO, Calif. (AP) – A fast-moving wildfire in a rural part of eastern San Diego County has forced the evacuation of about 80 homes.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says the fire has blackened 1,000 acres since it began Sunday afternoon near the Campo Indian Reservation.
Fire Capt. Mike Mohler said 20 mph winds were fanning the flames rapidly to open country in the east.
More than 200 firefighters are at the scene. An evacuation center was being set up at a high school in the nearby community of Pine Valley. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
